NJ to Irving Shipley and Sharon Johnson who both preceded her in
death. She received her formal education from Project Link and St.
Vincent's High School in Newark. She then attended the University
of Maryland of Eastern Shore where she graduated in 2000 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
While in college she began her first job at Newark City Hall where
she worked until graduation. She then began work at the Newark
office of the Division of Youth and Family Services where she was
employed for the last six years. During this time she excelled at her
job being promoted to supervisor while making lost lasting friends
along the way.
Nadiyah was a happy free spirit that loved to travel and spend time
with family and friends. Anytime you seen Nadiyah you seen
Kimani. Nadiyah always made sure Kimani had the best of
everything from schools to clothes. She also took on the role of
mother and caretaker to her nephew Ishmail. God had an opening
for angels so he called her home on December 8, 2008.
Nadiyah leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter and pride
and joy, Kimani Thomas and a special nephew that she provided
with a loving home, Ishmail Johnson. She also leaves to cherish her
memory seven siblings...Matteen, Shaheemah, Jalil, Osmond, Umar
(Ibn), Kenny, and Tracey. She had eight very close cousins Irving,
Amanda, Ashley, Meighan, Traci, Andrea, Christian, and Johnathon
and four loving and protective uncles Jeffrey, Anthony, Tracey, and
Miles. Her grandmother Jean Doris who contributed to her
becoming the fine young lady that she was also preceded her in death
