At 30 years young, she had lived a life deserving of the highest
praise. she just might have been a superhero.I didn't need Superman, I had my own personal Nadiyah.
But Nadiyah took it in stride and loved each of them in her own
special way. Even if that meant she occasionally had to deliver her
infamous cuss out. Anybody who has ever been witness to one can
testify that she was most certainly Sharon's daughter...
The daughter that defied the odds and became the first to graduate
college in generations. An example that did not go unnoticed by her
cousins, because if Nadiyah did it, you knew two things: it couldn't
be that scary and it would never mess up your perfectly straightened
hair. What can I say, Nadiyah was fabulous from head to toe whether
she was in Gucci and gold or watching TV with Kimani in pajamas.
She would always have something hilarious to say even if she didn't
even mean to have you in stitches. if my uncles knew the jokes she had as a kid, she might not have ever been allowed to leave the house. Well, I take that back, anyone who knows my family knows that Diyah got whatever she wanted as long as her sentence started with one word... Nana. Jean Doris was more than her grandmother but was often her savior and always her heart.
It brings tears to my eyes but a smile to my face to know that our
beloved Nana will be screaming her name through the heavens as she
welcomes her home. So this is the way I choose to remember my first
and favorite cousin, for her unbreakable family ties, her fabulous
hair, her ability to raise a beautiful and equally bright baby girl to
whom she gave the world, her intelligence, her determination, her
collection of handbags, her stunner shades, her smile, her minor
obsession with hot sauce, her loyalty, and her Callender girl fire
